Mainstays 6 Quart Oval Slow Cooker
Our 6 quart oval slow cooker transforms tough cuts of meat and raw ingredients into tender, flavorful meals while you work, sleep, or spend time with family. The oval shape accommodates whole chickens and roasts that won’t fit in round models, while the 6 quart capacity feeds six to eight people without crowding your counter.
We built this slow cooker with a removable stoneware crock that distributes heat evenly and cleans up in the dishwasher. Three heat settings — low, high, and warm — let you dial in the right temperature for everything from overnight oats to pulled pork. The tempered glass lid seals in moisture and flavor, and you can lift it to check progress without stopping the cook.

What the numbers mean
The 6 quart oval basin holds three pounds of beef chuck, eight chicken thighs, or four quarts of chili with room for stirring. We chose the oval footprint because it fits bone-in cuts and whole birds that tip over or wedge awkwardly in round pots.
Counter depth measures 10.2 inches front to back, narrow enough to tuck under cabinets without blocking your workspace. The stoneware crock lifts out in one piece when you need to serve at the table or scrape down the sides mid-cook.
Low heat runs at approximately 200°F and suits eight-hour braises, overnight steel-cut oats, and recipes that break down collagen in tough meat. High heat climbs to 300°F for four-hour cooks when you start in the morning and want dinner ready by evening.
The warm setting holds finished food at a safe serving temperature without overcooking. We recommend switching to warm once the cook timer finishes rather than leaving the pot on low, which can dry out proteins and turn vegetables to mush. Many of the innovations that started in countertop small kitchen appliances decades ago — programmable timers, auto-shutoff, keep-warm modes — now appear in higher-end slow cooker models, though this 6 quart oval focuses on manual dial simplicity.
Dishwasher-safe components
The stoneware crock and tempered glass lid go straight into the dishwasher after every use. If food bakes onto the crock, fill it with warm water and a squirt of dish soap, let it soak for twenty minutes, then wipe clean.
Heating base care
Unplug the unit and wipe the metal heating well with a damp cloth. Never submerge the base in water or run it through the dishwasher. Dried-on spills inside the heating well can be loosened with a paste of baking soda and water, left for ten minutes, then wiped away.

What comes in the box
You receive the stainless steel heating base with integrated controls, one 6 quart oval stoneware crock, one tempered glass lid with steam vent, and a printed quick-start guide. The guide includes a cooking time chart for common proteins and vegetables, temperature guidelines, and safety warnings.
We do not include recipes in the box, but the quick-start card lists suggested cook times: chicken breasts four hours on high, pork shoulder eight hours on low, root vegetables six hours on low. These times assume you start with refrigerator-cold ingredients and a preheated base.

Common questions about your Mainstays 6 quart oval slow cooker
Only the stoneware crock and glass lid are dishwasher-safe. The heating base contains electrical components and must never be submerged in water. Unplug the base and wipe it with a damp cloth after it cools completely.
If you get food splatter on the metal heating well, make a paste from baking soda and water, apply it to the stain, let it sit for ten minutes, then wipe it away with a soft sponge.
The heating base takes approximately fifteen to twenty minutes to bring the empty crock up to low-heat temperature and ten to fifteen minutes to reach high heat. Once you add cold ingredients, the total time to cooking temperature depends on the volume and starting temperature of the food.
For best results, add your ingredients to the crock while it sits in the heating base, set your desired temperature, and cover with the lid. The unit will reach a stable cooking temperature within thirty minutes under normal conditions.
The warm setting holds food between 165°F and 175°F, which keeps cooked dishes at a safe serving temperature without continuing to cook them. This range prevents bacterial growth while avoiding the dry, overcooked texture that happens when you leave finished food on low heat.
You can leave food on warm for up to four hours, though we recommend transferring leftovers to the refrigerator within two hours if you want to preserve the best texture and moisture.
A 5-pound whole chicken fits comfortably in the 6 quart oval crock with the lid closed. The oval shape accommodates the length of the bird better than a round pot, and you can tuck vegetables like quartered onions and halved carrots around the sides.
If you cook chickens larger than 6 pounds, you may need to remove the legs or cut the bird in half to fit under the lid. The quick-start guide recommends four to five hours on high or seven to eight hours on low for a whole chicken.
The stoneware crock is oven-safe up to 400°F but should never be used on a stovetop burner. Direct flame or electric coil heat can crack the ceramic. If you want to brown meat before slow cooking, use a separate skillet, then transfer the seared pieces to the crock.
Always place the hot crock on a trivet or towel when you remove it from the oven. Setting it directly on a cold countertop can cause thermal shock and cracking.
The tempered glass lid rests on the crock rim and includes a small steam vent hole in the top knob. This design allows excess steam to escape gradually, preventing pressure buildup while retaining enough moisture for tender, flavorful results.
The lid does not lock or clamp down. If you need to transport the slow cooker while cooking, turn it off, let it cool for ten minutes, then use both hands to carry the base with the crock and lid in place.
The Mainstays 6 quart oval slow cooker draws 250 watts at peak heating. On the low setting, it cycles between approximately 180 and 220 watts to maintain temperature. If you cook on low for eight hours, the total energy use is around 1.6 kilowatt-hours, which costs between fifteen and twenty cents depending on your local electric rate.
The warm setting uses the least power, cycling between 80 and 120 watts to hold food at serving temperature without active cooking.
