Mainstays Desk – Functional Home Office & Study Solutions
Our student desk delivers a clean, compact workspace for home offices, bedrooms, and dorm rooms. The engineered wood frame resists everyday wear while keeping your total footprint under 40 inches wide — ideal when floor space is tight.
We built the desktop to support a laptop, monitor, and notebooks without wobbling. Assembly takes about 30 minutes with the included hardware and illustrated instructions. The neutral finish pairs with virtually any décor scheme, and the open-leg design tucks a rolling file cart or small bookshelf underneath.

What the numbers mean
Every mainstays desk in our catalog starts with engineered wood panels — layers of wood fiber bonded under heat and pressure to resist warping. We apply a thermally fused laminate veneer that stands up to coffee spills and daily friction from mouse pads and notebooks.
Metal hardware reinforces all leg-to-apron joints. The corner brace on our L-shaped model uses steel angle brackets rather than plastic clips, so the perpendicular surfaces stay square even when you lean on the junction. Adjustable leveling feet thread into pre-drilled inserts at the bottom of each leg, letting you dial out wobble on tile or carpet.
Measuring Your Space
Before choosing a desk, measure wall-to-wall width and note any baseboard trim, electrical outlets, or heat registers that protrude. Our 39-inch student desk leaves at least six inches of clearance on each side in a standard 50-inch alcove. The L-shaped corner model requires a true 90-degree corner and approximately 52 inches of clearance along each wall.
Desktop Depth
All three models offer 18- to 20-inch depth, which accommodates a 24-inch monitor on a stand with room for a keyboard in front. If you plan to use dual monitors or an ultrawide display, confirm that your monitor arm or stand footprint fits within the desktop perimeter before assembly.
Each desk ships with a printed assembly manual, hardware pack, and Allen wrench. Typical build time runs 25 to 40 minutes for one person. Start by attaching the legs to the underside of the desktop using the included barrel nuts and bolts — hand-tighten first, then use the wrench for the final quarter turn.
The L-shaped desk adds a corner-brace step: align the two desktop halves, slide the metal bracket into the pre-drilled slots, and secure with the longer bolts. We recommend assembling on carpet or a blanket to protect the laminate finish from scratches during the flip from upside-down to upright.

Care & Maintenance
Wipe the laminate surface with a damp microfiber cloth and mild dish soap. Avoid abrasive cleaners or scouring pads, which can dull the finish over time. For stuck-on residue, let warm water sit on the spot for 30 seconds before wiping.
Check leg bolts every six months — vibration from typing and drawer use can loosen hardware gradually. Retighten any wobbly connections with the Allen wrench stored in your desk drawer. If a leveling foot becomes cross-threaded, replacement inserts are available through our customer-service line.

Common Questions About Our Desks
Our student and writing desks support up to 50 pounds of evenly distributed weight. The L-shaped corner desk has a combined capacity of 100 pounds across both work surfaces. These limits assume static load — stacking heavy objects on one edge or leaning your full body weight on a corner may exceed design parameters.
Yes, as long as the clamp opens wide enough to grip our 0.75-inch desktop thickness. Most standard monitor arms and desk lamps with C-clamps fit without issue. If your accessory requires a grommet-mount hole, you will need to drill one yourself — our desks do not include pre-cut monitor-arm ports, only cable-management grommets on select models.
Attach the legs to each desktop half first, then join the two surfaces using the metal corner brace and longer bolts provided. Align the pre-drilled slots before inserting the bracket, and tighten all connections in a star pattern to keep the joint square. The entire process takes about 45 minutes and requires only the included Allen wrench.
Our 36-inch and 39-inch models are designed specifically for tight spaces. Measure your available wall width and confirm at least two inches of clearance on each side for comfortable chair movement. The open-leg design leaves floor space underneath for storage bins or a small filing cabinet.
We include an Allen wrench with every desk — no additional tools are required. A Phillips screwdriver can help if you choose to attach optional cable-management clips or pegboard mounts, but the core assembly uses only barrel bolts and the supplied wrench.
Wipe with a damp microfiber cloth and a drop of mild dish soap. For sticky residue, let warm water sit on the spot for 30 seconds before wiping. Avoid ammonia-based glass cleaners and abrasive sponges, which can scratch or dull the laminate finish over time.
Contact our customer-service team with your model number and a description of the missing part. We stock replacement bolts, barrel nuts, leveling feet, and corner braces. Most small hardware ships free of charge within the warranty period.
